For which period permit for temporary residence in the Republic of Azerbaijan is issued?
To foreigners or stateless persons investing at least 500 000 manats in the economy of the country permit for temporary residence in the Republic of Azerbaijan is issued for the period mentioned on the application of the applicant, but for a period not exceeding 3 years and can be extended each time for the period not exceeding 3 years, if there is a relevant ground.
In all other cases permit for temporary residence in the Republic of Azerbaijan is issued for the period mentioned on the application of the applicant, but for a period not exceeding 1 year and can be extended each time for the period not exceeding 2 years, if there is a relevant ground.
What are the grounds for permit for temporary residence?
You can obtain temporary residence permit in Azerbaijan if you:
● Are a close relative of a citizen of Azerbaijan;
● Have invested at least 500 000 manats in the economy of Azerbaijan;
● Possess real estate which is worth at least 100 000 manats in Azerbaijan;
● Deposit money in the amount of at least 100.000 manats in the banks functioning in Azerbaijan on the basis of a term deposit agreement;
● Are highly qualified specialist in the spheres of economy, industry, military, science, culture, sports, etc;
● Are a specialist invited for implementing activities or rendering services in the activity spheres determined by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
● Are a family member of foreigners and stateless persons temporarily/permanently residing in Azerbaijan;
● Hold a position of head or deputy head in the branch or representation of a foreign juridical person in Azerbaijan;
● Hold a position of head or deputy head of juridical person established in, the founder or at least one of the founders of which is foreign juridical or physical person;
● Are engaged in entrepreneurship activity in Azerbaijan;
● Are considered a victim of human trafficking;
● Are assisting to criminal investigation bodies;
● Are recruited by the relevant executive authority;
● Are military serviceman or expert invited to serve or work for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other armed units, established according to the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
● Are an accredited employee of the mass media in the Republic of Azerbaijan;
● Are a seaman;
● Are a professor, teacher and lecturer invited to deliver lectures at higher education institutions;
● Are an art worker, coach and athlete invited to work for sport clubs officially registered by the relevant executive authority;

In which cases foreginers and stateless persons can carry out paid labor activity in the Republic of Azerbaijan without obtaining permit?
The following foreigners and stateless persons are not required to obtain a work permit:
- Persons holding permit for permanent residence in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- Persons engaged in entrepreneurship activity in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- Employees of diplomatic representations and consulates;
- Employees of international organizations;
- Heads of the organizations established under international agreements and their deputies;
- Persons employed by relevant executive authority;
- Military personnel and specialists invited for service or work in Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other armed units established pursuant to the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- Employees of mass media accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan;

- Specialists included to the category defined by relevant executive authority who have been invited by the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan or juridical persons established in the Unofficial translation Republic of Azerbaijan for the purpose of doing works or rendering services in the activity areas determined by the relevant executive authority;
- Seamen;
- Academic staff and lecturers invited to institutes of higher education for delivering lectures;
- Art workers, trainers and sportsmen invited to work in sport clubs registered at relevant executive authority;
- Persons engaging in professional religious activity in the officially registered religious institutions;
- Heads of branches and representations of foreign juridical persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan and their deputies;
- Persons married with the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan,provided that the citizen is registered on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan upon place of residence;
- Persons submitted application for obtaining refugee status, obtained refugee status or granted political asylum;

- In case there is a need for urgent medical treatment of foreigners and stateless persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- In case of serious illness or death of foreigner’s and stateless person’s any close relative residing in the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- In case there is a justified application on incompleteness of intended work by foreigners and stateless persons arrived related with official necessity, submitted by organization inviting those persons;
